Silver State Volleyball Teams Head to AAU Girls National Volleyball Championships in Florida

Silver State Volleyball Club formerly Capital City Volleyball Club and Silver State Volleyball Academy has been serving Northern Nevada and California communities since 1999, assisting girls ages 8-18 to reach their dreams of becoming accomplished volleyball players.

Carson City and Lake Tahoe area road report through June 8

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of June 2-8, 2014. The following roads will experience paving/slurry seal operations on Thursday, June 5, and Friday, June 6, as part of the Carson City Freeway project, according to Carson City Public Works.

ComputerCorps Tech Camp for kids

The ComputerCorps "Every-Home-A-Classroom" TechCamp is an annual summer program for youth 10-15 years old. For the past 14 years, this 2-week program gives kids the opportunity to learn about computer recycling, testing and assembly while building a computer system they can take home or give to a needy family at the end of camp.

Let me be clear that I draw a parallel to your reporting in the RC opinion page with what in the 30’s was called yellow journalism. Use of the journalism in the same sentence with your name does a disservice to journalists everywhere even those in the mainstream.

Nevada Business Group on Health Hosts Benefit Plan Design Seminar on June 12

It's Your City with Ian Hill talks about upcoming Leadership Boot Camp

Ian Hill of Carson City provides an update on the Leadership Boot Camp being made available by The Changing Point. Proceeds from this program will benefit CASA of Carson City and the Brewery Arts Center.

Carson City deputies arrest man on domestic battery, restraining order violation

A 20-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Tuesday on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery and being in violation of a restraining order, according to the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

The man was arrested at 3:28 a.m. in the 1700 block of Russell Way. According to the arrest report, Carson City sheriff's deputies were called to the address after a report came in of two men arguing.

Carson City man jailed on felony domestic battery and home invasion charges

UPDATE: Carson City sheriff's office deputies made multiple felony and misdemeanor arrests from Friday through Monday during the Memorial Day weekend holiday period. Felony arrests were for domestic battery, weapon and drug charges.

Annual Powwow Celebrates Nevada's Rich, Native History

The sidewalk on the south side of Robinson Street between Carson Street and Plaza Street will be closed from 6 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, May 28, and Thursday, May 29.

Tom Brooks Annual Memorial Fishing Tournament — Gone Fishin' 2014

Tomorrow, Saturday, is the last day of the Annual Tom Brooks Gone Fishin' tournament. Held every year in memory of Thomas Brooks who passed away in August of 2008. Weigh in is at 4pm at the Timbers Saloon on Carson St.

Held every year, Toms loved ones and lifetime friends put this tournament together to go do what Tom loved the most; fishing. There is a money prize for the biggest fish brought in to weigh, raffles, BBQ, beer, washers, and my most favorite part; talking about the memories and sharing laughs of Tom.

It’s that time of year again when a new crop of high school seniors look forward to traveling whatever paths they’ve chosen for themselves and more than a few eighth-grade students are looking forward with a combination of dread and anticipation, to beginning their high school years.

Carson City sheriff's candidates square off on staffing, drugs and policing

With early voting in Nevada's primary election beginning Saturday, Carson City residents learned more about some of the philosophies of candidates in the contested races during Wednesday night's candidate forum hosted by the Carson City Chamber of Commerce.

The Performance Hall of the BAC was a full house for the forum, with hardly an empty seat found for the first segment where the candidates for sheriff were questioned. The audience was reduced to about half after the sheriff's candidate portion ended.

Wild West window seats aboard historic V&T Railroad begin Memorial Day weekend

It is full steam ahead aboard Nevada's premiere window seat into the Wild West with the 2014 season of the historic Virginia & Truckee Railroad taking to the rails beginning Memorial Day weekend.

Steam train rides from Carson City to the 1860s boom-era mining town of Virginia City will begin May 24 and extend weekends through Oct. 19. Friday diesel train tours will begin June 20.
 

Carson City woman arrested after failing to return borrowed car to owner

A 24-year-old Carson City woman was arrested early Tuesday on suspicion of unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, a gross misdemeanor, and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

Officers were notified that a vehicle in the possession of the woman had not been returned after she was given permission, earlier, to use it. The vehicle was then reported stolen. Officers located the vehicle in the 200 block of W. Caroline Street and observed the suspect inside.

Carson City weekend arrests include several felony and misdemeanor-related offenses

The Carson City Sheriff's Office made several felony and misdemeanor arrests over the weekend, many for drug offenses and court warrants.

A 47-year-old Carson City man, Jon Michael Dietmeier, was arrested Friday, 11:07 p.m. in the 2600 block of Highway 50 East by Carson City sheriff's SET officers on felony drug and weapon charges.

BMX Race for Life is Sunday at Edmonds Sports Complex in Carson City

This Sunday May 18, all BMX bikers are invited to participate in Race for Life, hosted by Carson City BMX at Edmonds Sports Complex. Signups are from 9 to 10 a.m. The cost is $10.

What is the Race For Life? It all started in 1981 when an avid 12 year old BMX racer from Michigan discovered he had Leukemia. Todd Kingsbury was his name, and like many BMXers, he had dreams of someday becoming a top pro in the sport. Unfortunately, this dreaded disease would keep Todd from fulfilling his dream.

Saturday's South Lake Tahoe 'Snapshot Day' seek volunteer water quality monitors

The 14th Annual Water Quality Snapshot Day will be held Saturday, May 17, from 9 am to 12 pm throughout South Lake Tahoe. The event is a citizen-based environmental effort designed to take a “snapshot,” at one moment in time, of the water quality throughout the Lake Tahoe and Truckee River watershed. Water quality monitoring will take place from the tributaries flowing into the Lake.
