Supervisors to discuss new board appointments, fire contracts, Justice of the Peace vacancy and more Jan. 4
The next Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting will be held on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2024 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Bob Crowell Boardroom of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.
Members of the public who wish only to view the meeting but do NOT plan to make public comment may watch the livestream of the Board of Supervisors meeting at https://www.carson.org/granicus and by clicking on “In progress” next to the meeting date, or by tuning in to cable channel 191.
The public may provide public comment in advance of a meeting by written submission to the following email address: publiccomment@carson.org. For inclusion or reference in the minutes of the meeting, your public comment must include your full name and be submitted via email by not later than 3:00 p.m. the day before the meeting. Public comment during a meeting is limited to three minutes per speaker.
— The Carson City Fire Department is requesting to retroactively extend the current contract between NV Energy and the fire department to perform Hazardous Fuels Management and Stand-by Services from Jan. 1, 2024 through Jan. 31, 2024 to be billed in the amount of $435,000. This extension is due to the need to finalize negations for a new three-year agreement which would begin Feb. 1, 2024.
— The Nevada System of Higher Education is proposing an interlocal agreement with the Carson City Fire Department on behalf of Truckee Meadows Community College for the fire department to train qualified TMCC students in paramedicine for a base charge of $1,500 per student, with optional extensions of $300 per student, effective Jan. 1, 2024 through June 30, 2026. Under the proposed three-year TMCC Agreement, TMCC students who are enrolled in emergency medical service studies will receive pre-hospital clinical supervision and hands-on educational experiences from CCFD through ride- along and internship programs for paramedic students.
— A new member will be appointed to the Carson City Planning Commission for a term that expires January 2028.There is currently one position open due to the expiration of a term. New applications were submitted by Greg Brooks, Dawn Calhoun and Maxine Nietz.
— Supervisors will discuss the selection process to appoint or elect a new Carson City Justice of the Peace. The current Justice of the Peace, Kristen Luis, has been appointed by Gov. Lombardo to the First Judicial District Court seat following the retirement of Judge James Wilson. Supervisors will need to select a process through which the Justice of the Peace vacancy can be filled.
— Two members will be appointed to the Carson City Open Space Advisory Committee each for full terms that expire in January 2028. There are two vacancies due to expiration of terms. A reappointment request was submitted by Samuel Mozingo. New applications were received from Robert Pyzel, Edward Skudlarek, Mary Siders, Diane Thornton, John Duerk, Aeryn Mcqueary and Alexi Lanza.
