Crews mopping up Holiday Fire southeast of Gardnerville
Fire crews on scene of the Holiday Fire southeast of Gardnerville are currently in mop-up stage, the Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center (SFIDC) reported Saturday.
The fire was first reported Thursday evening in the Preacher Mine area near Buffalo Canyon between Ray May Way and Leviathan Mine Road southeast of Gardnerville.
The blaze was located near the area of last year's massive Preacher Fire.
Because it was burning in an area surrounded by black scar left from previous wildfires, the fire advanced slowly through existing grass, pinion and juniper with low spread potential.
The Holiday Fire grew only to about 60 in size, the SFIDC reported.
However, fighting the blaze was a challenge due to difficult access for fire crews as well as limited resource availability, Douglas County had said in a press release Friday.
Cause of the Holiday Fire remains unknown and is currently under investigation.
