Carson City jail inmate admits to possessing meth, paraphernalia found in shower stall

A 36-year-old inmate at Carson City jail was booked Saturday for suspicion of possession of 18.1 grams of methamphetamine, according to a Carson City Sheriff's office booking report.

Karla Estrada Uribe was also booked for possession of drug paraphernalia. Investigating deputies recovered a glass pipe and a small plastic "tooter" straw, commonly used to inhale controlled substances, along with the methamphetamine in an inmate shower stall.

During the course of the investigation, deputies conducted interviews. Estrada was read her Miranda warning, and initially denied knowing anything about what was found, however, she changed her story, admitting to bringing the contraband into jail and how she concealed them. Her description of the items matched what was located in the shower stall. Bail: $20,000.

In other arrest:
— A 25-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Dec. 23 for suspicion of misdemeanor DUI, obstructing, resisting an office with violence, open contain and violation of a suspended sentence.

According to the booking report a deputy observed a vehicle parked on the side of the road with the lights on and engine running but the driver not seen.

The deputy approached the vehicle and found the sole occupant sleeping in the driver's seat with the vehicle running. The officer announced who they were. The woman woke up and appeared startled. She rolled down her window where the deputy could smell a strong odor of alcohol and an open can of beer in the passenger seat, the report states.

The woman identified herself and stepped out of the vehicle, where she used the car to steady herself by leaning against it. She told the deputy she was not on probation. However, dispatch informed the deputy that the woman had a "no alcohol" and "no open container" condition of her suspended sentence agreement through the Department of Alternative Sentencing, the report states.

The woman agreed to standardized field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment. She provided a preliminary breath test of .205. When the deputy attempted to arrest her for DUI, the woman refused commands to turn around and place her hands behind her back and then began resisting arrest, the report states.

While preparing the vehicle to be towed, the officer located 19 open and empty one-ounce hard alcohol bottles in the driver's side door, center console, passenger seat and floorboard. During the booking process the woman refused to provide basic information on the booking sheet. Total bail amount listed: $3,878.

— A 20-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday for suspicion of gross misdemeanor destruction of property and misdemeanor minor consuming.

According to the booking report, the man pounded on the windows of a facility multiple times, breaking the window and causing $500 in damage.

During the interview with the suspect, deputies observed the man had red watery eyes, and a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. He provided a preliminary breath test of .137. He was arrested.

— A 42-year-old woman was arrested Monday for suspicion of battery on a protected person, a gross misdemeanor offense and an outside agency warrant, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office report.

According to the report, the suspect was in an altercation with a certified nursing assistance at a behavioral health facility in which the victim was pushed into a wall, hitting their head.

A Carson City deputy was able to watch footage of the incident. The suspect was arrested. While taking her to jail, dispatch advised the suspect had a misdemeanor warrant out of Dayton. Bail: $2,500 for the battery on a protected person charge and the warrant, $2,825 cash.

— An 18-year-old Gardnerville man was arrested Monday for three counts contributing to the delinquency of a minor and being a minor in possession of alcohol.

According to the booking report, deputies respond to investigate graffiti and observed observed several juveniles acting strange.

While speaking to four of the subjects, the deputy could smell a strong odor of alcohol on three of the subjects, all were under 18. The fourth individual, who was 18, had several alcohol containers in the back seat of his vehicle. Bail: $500.

— A 32-year-old man was arrested Sunday for a misdemeanor outside agency warrant issued out of Sparks Municipal Court. Bail: $1,490.

— A 25-year-old Carson City man was arrested Dec. 22 for suspicion of DUI, driving on a suspended registration and driving on a revoked license.

According to the booking report, a deputy conducted a traffic stop at the corner of Robinson Street and Drew Way because the driver did not come to a complete stop at the stop sign.

When the deputy made contact with the driver, the man was unable to provide a driver's license, registration or proof of insurance. He uttered that his license was currently revoked due to having a DUI in October.

Dispatch advised the license was revoked. He was arrested. During inventory, the deputy located a small empty bottle of Jagermeister in the center console. The man agreed to standardized field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment on the tests. He provided a preliminary breath test of .186 and was arrested. Bail amount listed: $2,386.

Carson City Sheriff’s Office K9s take 1st in Narcotics Detection and finish 2nd team overall at the 3rd Annual Regional K9 Unit Challenge.

Early voting on Saturdays is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Early voting on weekdays is 9 a.m. to 6 pm. Election Day voting is 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
