Christmas Eve visits from Santa tradition continues thanks to Carson City Sheriff's Reserve
Volunteers donning red suits and beards and the Carson City Sheriff's Office Reserve Unit teamed up once again Sunday Christmas Eve to stop by several homes and hand out pre-arranged family gifts from Santa.
Good cheer was indeed the order of the special evening as it has been for at least 30 years for families who scheduled, through a hotline, pre-arranged visits with Santa. The program continues thanks to the Carson City Sheriff's Office Uniform Reserve Unit, Search & Rescue, and Mounted Unit volunteers.
Families enjoyed well wishes and pictures of their children with Santa, as well as a pre-arranged gift exchange where families provided Santa their gifts to give to children during the stop. Each visit lasted around 10 to 15 minutes, and then it was off to see other families.
The CCSO Reserve Unit team visited 45 families on Sunday night, with five volunteer Santas donning the red suit and white beard, including Carson City Sheriff's Office Commander Robert Rikalo.
The tradition, which was canceled during Covid but returned in 2023 will continue again next Christmas Eve.
