Eagle sculpture finally lands permanent home on south end of Carson City Freeway
The long-awaited, much-anticipated 800 pound metal eagle sculpture has finally found its permanent home Thursday on the south end of the Carson City freeway.
The welded sculpture with a 16-foot wingspan, was commissioned by the Nevada Department of Transportation and built by an Idaho artist for a cost of around $40,000. A metal eagle is also located on the north end of Carson Street overpass.
“The eagle has landed,” said Matt Hobdy, engineer technician for NDOT. “I wasn’t sure if they would get it up before Christmas but we got the call yesterday and here it is.”
NDOT spokeswoman Meg Ragonese had noted to News 4 this summer that the delay was for safety reasons due to high winds that often sweep through the area. After final engineering assessments were made, installation was given the final go-ahead.
