Graham's Word: Ault Is The Best Coach For Nevada Football
Chris Ault has been a very successful coach for Nevada. Yet, every time Nevada Football has a ‘less-than-impressive’ finish to the season, some fans call for him to leave or be relieved of his position.
Let’s take a look at just exactly what Ault has done for the Nevada Football program:
He has been the Head Coach for 28 seasons. In those seasons he has compiled a 233-109-1 overall record. Ault has only had three losing seasons. Three. He has led Nevada to nine conference titles. Under his belt, Nevada has been to the postseason 17 times and that includes a current 8 year streak.
It sounds like to me that Nevada has a great coach leading their team. Here is something that all Nevada fans should be aware of: Las Vegas newspapers have been hinting at the fact that UNLV should look at him to become their new Head Coach. It is not out of the realm of things that he may just listen if UNLV approached him. First of all, I believe UNLV may offer him a nice sum of money and incentives to lure him down south.
The next thing Nevada fans should worry about is if he goes to UNLV, the shift of power between the two football programs may change as well. Currently, Nevada has an eight game winning streak between the two schools, and a much more successful history under Ault. UNLV has only had one winning season since 2000. One. They have not been to the postseason since the 2000 season.
Ault has also already been a part of the UNLV Football program as an assistant from 1973-1975.
Just this past year Chris Ault was named second-best bargain among all football college coaches by ESPN with his salary the way it is and his winning ways. Ault also took a pay-cut last year because of the budget woes for Nevada. He took a pay-cut to stay instead of looking elsewhere.
It is just something that Nevada fans should think about. Chris Ault is one of the most successful coaches in college football. Teams win and they lose, it happens. I for one, as a Nevada fan, am glad we have a coach like Ault. He is the right coach to have for this program.
I would also like to have him as a guest on my sports show that starts in February 2013. "He Said,She Said Sports Show" with my co-host Jessica Kleinschmidt. Let's make this happen UNR!
