Carson City man, 72, and woman, 23, arrested for possessing 'methamphetamine dust particles' following traffic stop
A 23-year-old woman and a 72-year-old man were arrested in the area of Research and College Parkway Thursday night for possession of “suspected methamphetamine dust particles.”
According to the arrest report, deputies made a traffic stop due to a license plate being unreadable at 50 feet away. Deputies made contact with the driver, James Weber, and the passenger, Monica Lopez.
Deputies stated in the report they found it odd that the individuals had such a large age gap between them, and initially thought the woman might have been an older teenager. Deputies asked how the couple knew each other, and Weber stated they knew each other from work, and Lopez had called him for a ride.
While speaking with the driver, dispatch advised that Lopez had several jail visits to known drug offenders, and a K9 officer was dispatched to the scene.
As the car was searched, Lopez told deputies that she and Weber had an “off-and-on relationship” that began when she was “around 18 years old.” Deputies asked if she had ever used drugs in her life, and she stated that Weber had not. Deputies clarified they were asking about her drug usage, and she said no.
Deputies searched the vehicle following a positive alert from the K9 and located what they reported as “suspected methamphetamine dust particles” in the glove box. Deputies collected the substance on a cotton swab and tested it, which resulted in a presumptive positive for the presence of methamphetamine.
Deputies asked Weber if the methamphetamine belonged to him, and he said no and that “this is a set up.”
Lopez also denied possession of the methamphetamine, and said she was upset because she couldn’t believe Weber would “do this to her” knowing her drug history. Deputies told her she’d said she’d never used drugs, and she said it wasn’t the truth and apologized.
Both Weber and Lopez were taken into custody for possession of a controlled substance.
Bail for each: $2,500
