Cold winter storm to bring 2-4 inches of snow to valleys, up to 2 feet at Lake Tahoe resorts
What this latest storm lacks in significant snow depth for Carson City will be made up with bitter cold and wind.
That's the word from the National Weather Service as a winter storm was to barrel down in the region, bringing 2 to 4 inches of snow to Carson City, up to 6 inches above 5,000 feet followed by several days of single-digit low temperatures and day time highs that will struggle to reach 20.
A Winter Weather Advisory runs until 10 p.m. Saturday for Carson City, Reno, Lyon, Storey and Douglas counties. The storm will bring cold air, gusty winds with moderate to heavy snow, arriving after 10 Friday night. If you're traveling to Lake Tahoe, the storm will bring blowing and drifting snow that will produce whiteout conditions.
A winter storm warning is in effect for Lake Tahoe and the Sierra through 10 a.m. Saturday morning. The storm is great for skiers and snowboarders, especially those who love powder conditions. The storm will bring 6 inches to a foot at lake level and up to 2 feet above 7,000 feet.
In Carson City, snow showers will continue before 10 a.m. Saturday before it turns mostly cloudy, with a high near 22 and a low near 7. Saturday afternoon's snow accumulation for the western valleys is expected to be less than an inch.
Sunday will bring cold, clear skies with a high of 20 and a low of 6. Monday's high will be around 24 with a low near 11. Temperatures, however, may drop below zero, in some areas of the western valleys, according to the weather service.

This week's storm produced icy roads and streets making for more than 200 accidents in the area. A homeless man died Thursday and it is believed to be due to exposure to cold.
