Winter weather advisory posted for Carson City area, snow likely Saturday morning
A Winter Weather Advisory has been posted by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno for the greater Reno, Carson City and Minden Area, including Sparks, Gardnerville, and Virginia City.
Snow is expected overnight Friday into Saturday morning with an 80-90 percent chance of precipitation beginning at around 4 a.m. The advisory will remain in effect until about 12 p.m. Saturday, the NWS said.
Total accumulations for valley areas is forecast for 1-2 inches, and local amounts of up to four inches in the foothills.
The heaviest snowfall is expected Saturday morning after daybreak, the NWS said.
Plan on slippery road conditions Saturday morning. This storm is much colder and snow will impact all area roadways, the NWS said.
The daytime high Saturday in Carson City is forecast to reach only about 39 degrees. The overnight low into Sunday morning is forecast to dip to 20 degrees and the daytime high Sunday is expected to only reach 36 degrees.
A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Expect snow covered roads and limited visibility, and use caution while driving.
