Carson City Sheriff's Office offers Citizens’ Academy for high school seniors
Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong announced Tuesday that a new Citizens’ Academy for high school seniors will begin Wednesday Feb. 1, 2017. If you have wondered how the Sheriff’s Office operates or how the Detention Center is managed, you will want to attend this Academy.
This informative Academy explains what the Sheriff’s Office does, how they do it and why it is done in a particular manner as well as the important role the School Resource Officers. This can be great for the senior project.
Each class will start with a question and answer period by Sheriff Ken Furlong and Undersheriff Steve Albertsen. Every Department from the Sheriff’s Office will be represented. We will have speakers from Patrol, Crime Lab, Evidence, Investigations, Special Enforcement Team, Gang Unit DUI/Traffic, K-9, 911 Dispatchers, School Resource Officers and there will be a SWAT team demonstration.
The Academy is open to Carson City High School Seniors. If you are interested in attending this eight week academy an application must be submitted by January 27, 2017. The Academy will be held the Sheriff’s Office at 911 E. Musser St. Carson City, NV. The academy will begin February 1, 2017 and conclude on March 22, 2017. If you are under eighteen years old, you must have a signed release from a parent.
