Carson City weekend arrests: Man jailed for alleged DUI, hit and run for leaving scene of crash

A man was arrested Sunday for DUI, accident hit and run, possession of a controlled substance and other alleged offenses, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Daniel Jacobsen was taken into custody at 4:58 p.m. following an investigation where his vehicle allegedly hit another vehicle in the area of Colorado Street and Birch Street and then left the scene.

A deputy began to search for the suspected driver and noticed destroyed car parts and fluid scattered on Colorado Street. The officer located the front bumper of the suspect vehicle at the intersection of Colorado and Utah streets. The officer ran the plate, which it was later determined to come back to the suspect.

The deputy followed the fluid trail to a vehicle parked in a parking lot on Fairview Drive. A witness advised they saw a man leave the vehicle, heading west of Fairview.

Deputies spoke with three witnesses and the victim and learned they saw a man with a dark hat driving the vehicle. There was a crash, where the suspect allegedly made a U-turn and then the front bumper fell off at the intersection of Utah Street and Colorado Street before it got out of sight going north on Utah.

The suspect was located near the restrooms of a business and fit the description of the man seen leaving the scene, the report states. Deputies found an open container of alcohol and a camouflage beanie that business staff said they saw him holding when he arrived. He was placed into custody and read his Miranda warning. He chose not to speak. It was also learned he had two failure to appear warrants.

Deputies contacted the district attorney and judge and requested a telephonic warrant for a blood draw. The warrant was granted. The man was taken to the hospital where he received medical clearance for his traffic accident and intoxication.

During the inventory of the suspect's vehicle before tow, a deputy located methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. He was booked for DUI accident hit and run, destruction of property, no proof of insurance, possession of drugs and of drug paraphernalia and two contempt of court warrants. The owner of the vehicle stated they had purchased the vehicle for $20,000 and believed the car was going to be totaled.

Bail: $1,000 cash only for one warrant, a no bail hold for another warrant and $2,500 for the other alleged offenses.

In other arrests:
— A South Lake Tahoe woman, Michelle Yvonne Benoit, was arrested Sunday for suspicion of domestic battery, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the booking report, deputies responded a South Carson Street motel regarding a domestic dispute where a woman was reported to be screaming from outside a room.

Deputies arrived and met with a woman who was later determined to be the suspect.

She advised she and her ex-boyfriend had been arguing. The deputy observed a scratch with dried blood on the woman's face. She was asked if the altercation was physical. She stated it was and did not know who "threw the first punch," the report states

Deputies spoke with the male and observed scratch marks on the man's body and right side of his face. There was blood on the right side of the bed where he stated he was sitting and was attacked, the report states.

After interviewing both subjects, it was determined the woman was the primary aggressor. She was placed under arrest. Suspected methamphetamine was found in the woman's purse and a pipe inside a vehicle after a consent to search was given to the deputy. Bail: $3,000.

— A 60-year-old man was arrested Saturday for suspicion of destruction of property after allegedly throwing a rock, hitting a vehicle.

According to the booking report, a deputy was dispatched to the North Roop Street area for a report of a man throwing a rock at a moving vehicle.

Deputies met with the victim who said he was driving north on Roop Street when the suspect threw a large rock, striking the vehicle. The deputy observed the rock that was used to hit the vehicle. There was damage on the front passenger side door where the rock hit it, the report states.

Deputies spoke with the suspect, who stated he damaged the vehicle so he could go to jail. The man was arrested for gross misdemeanor destruction of property. The victim estimated approximately $500 in damage wad done to the vehicle. Bail: $2,500.

— A 48-year-old Yerington man, Gordon Dwight Bryan, was booked into Carson City Jail for the following felony warrants: Attempted burglary of a business, grand larceny ($3,500), fugitive from other state, burglar of a structure, attempted grand larceny of an auto and grand larceny ($1,200 but less than $5,000). Bail: $20,000.

— A 32-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday for suspicion of possession for drug paraphernalia. Bail: $1,137.

— A 55-year-old man, Fred Knerium Levine, was arrested for suspicion of misdemeanor violation of pre-trial supervision and felony possession of a controlled substance.

According to the booking report, a deputy responded to a report of a man sleeping at the back porch of a North Curry Street business.

The deputy located the man and began to talk to him. As the officer was talking, he could smell a slight odor of alcohol on his person. Dispatch advised he was on Alternative Sentencing with a "no alcohol" clause. He provided a preliminary breath test of .108 and was arrested for alternative sentencing violation.

As deputies walked to the man, he made a throwing motion backward, with a deputy hearing a "tink" sound of glass hitting something hard. The deputy located a glass methamphetamine pipe. It tested presumptive positive for the presence of methamphetamine. He was booked for the probation violation and possession of a controlled substance. $3,000.
