Couple jailed on gross misdemeanor child endangerment charges
A 27-year-old Carson City woman faces a gross misdemeanor charge of child endangerment after being arrested Nov. 22, 4:37 p.m. in the 800 block of North Carson Street. Her 29-year-old boyfriend also faces gross misdemeanor child endangerment charges.
According an arrest report by the Carson City Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to the location after a report of two men fighting and threatening to throw each other off of a two-story balcony. Officers arrived and met with a woman holding her 22-day-old son.
The woman, who was swaying as she was speaking with officers, said she had a lot to drink and that her boyfriend had choked her. She said she made some comments to her boyfriend that upset him and he grabbed her around the neck. She told officers she escaped her boyfriend's hold and ran to another man's motel room.
In an interview with the man, he said he was in his motel room when he heard banging on his door. He opened the door and the woman with the infant walked inside. He said he noticed red marks on the woman's neck and asked her what happened. At that moment the woman's boyfriend walked into his room and started yelling at the man, according to details in the arrest report.
The woman walked out of the room, and the two men began fighting. The man said the boyfriend came within a few inches of his face and then grabbed him by his arms and started to force him backward toward the second balcony floor. The man was able to break away from the woman's boyfriend who was later arrested on suspicion of domestic battery and child endangerment after a preliminary breath test showed a .177.
Officer went back to the woman who insisted that she needed to nurse her baby because he was hungry. The deputy informed the woman it wasn't a good idea because she was highly intoxicated. The woman was taken into custody for child endangerment where she violently resisted the arrest. She was taken to jail where she blew a .234.
The baby was taken into protective custody by Child Protective Services.
Charges against the woman include suspicion of child endangerment, a gross misdemeanor, and resisting arrest with violence, a misdemeanor. Bail: $3,636. Charges for the boyfriend include domestic battery, a misdemeanor, and child endangerment, a gross misdemeanor. Bail: $5,632.
