Small brush fire near top of Goni Pit in Carson City
UPDATE 1:59PM: A small brush fire, thought to be touched off by target shooters, was declared under control by Carson City firefighters at 1:57 p.m. The fire, which burned about an acre, is near the top of Goni Pit. The target shooters reportedly admitted the fire started during target shooting and were speaking with Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies.

Carson City Fire Department crews are near the top of Goni Pit responding to a brush fire. The fire is said to be about 1 acre and moving slowly. Initial reports are that smoke is on the north side of the pit toward the top. According to Carson City dispatch the persons who reported the fire said they were target shooting and may have touched off the fire. Wind in Carson City has remained calm.
Fire crews reporting from the scene said they are working to get to the top, that there isn't that much brush to contend with and that the fire "is moving slowly."
The call came into dispatch at around 1:30 p.m.
