Carson City soccer tournaments raise $1,400 for injured students
Organized by Junior Ramirez, a member of Carson Futbol Club, soccer players from around the region gathered Saturday at Carson High School for a tournament to benefit students injured in the Nov. 9 vehicle crash on Kings Canyon Road. It was the second tournament fundraiser.
On Saturday, 15 teams participated raising $900, which included money generated from a snack bar. Last week, $500 was raised in an pick-up tournament at Talents Athletic Center in Carson City. Saturday's tournament was also coordinated by Carson Futbol Club coach Frank Martinez.
"We're doing it for the families and kids because we know it's a very hard time for them. We just want to stand by their sides and for them to know that the boys high school team stands with them during these tough times and so do many other people," said Ramirez ahead of last week's tournament.
