Carson City health agency to halt COVID-19 testing, vaccinations to remain Quad County focus

The long awaited project has finally reached completion, and the Bently Heritage Tasting Room will be open to the public on Saturday, Feb. 9 for its grand reveal.

The Carson City Board of Supervisors holds its first of two bimonthly meetings Thursday, while Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak visits Carson High School Career and Technical Education (CTE) students.

Parents, guardians and caregivers are encouraged to attend "Parent Night" (no students or children) at Carson Middle School, part of the #SaveTheKids program focusing on youth interactions with digital technology, the Internet and social media.

In Nevada, 24.8 percent of the class of 2018 public school students scored 3 or higher on AP exams, which qualifies them to earn college credit, placement, or both at nearly all colleges across the country.

Nationwide, 23.5 percent of the class of 2018 public school students earned 3 or higher, which demonstrates college readiness.

Pioneer High School (PHS) students understand this sentiment quite well. On Wednesday, January 30, 11 students and two staff members ventured up to Squaw Valley for the first school ski trip of the season.

Wilber Martinez-Guzman, the Carson City man suspected of murdering four people in Reno and Gardnerville, is set for a preliminary hearing at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Carson City Justice court to face 36 counts of felony weapons charges, burglary charges, possession of stolen items and immigration charges. He also faces murder charges in Washoe County, but a court hearing has not been set yet.

Mike Thomas will talk about Sasquatch Friday, Feb. 8 as a topic during his February presentations at Western Nevada College’s Jack C. Davis Observatory.

The Consolidated Municipality of Carson City is advising residents and visitors in the Nevada state capital to limit travel on city streets and roadways.
