Brief pursuit, standoff with Carson City and Douglas authorities ends with two in custody
A brief standoff with Carson City law enforcement at 9th and Division ended safely Thursday afternoon with 2 in custody and five detained following a brief vehicle pursuit that began in Douglas County but was shut down for safety reasons.
The incident began in Douglas County after 3 p.m. when a DCSO deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on a van. One of the two adult male subjects in the vehicle had a warrant for their arrest and the vehicle would not stop.
The DSCO deputy who attempted to make the traffic stop then alerted Carson City Sheriff's Office just before 3:30 p.m. of the situation as the vehicle was last seen on Curry Street. When the driver of the van was observed to be reckless, nearly running head on into one patrol unit, the Carson City pursuit was called off.
"Our units saw him on Curry, followed and then we terminated because it was too dangerous," said CCSO Sgt. Daniel Gonzales.
CCSO deputies instead took side streets attempting to locate the van. Deputies were alerted to the unoccupied van by witnesses on a street nearby who observed the van stop and park at 9th and Division. Deputies learned the van's occupants were in the home and there were several people inside.
Those inside eventually came out of the residence, after some coaxing with a bull horn. The suspect wanted on the warrant was the last to come out of the residence and was taken into custody.
He was arrested for the Douglas County warrant. The driver of the van was booked for local Carson City charges associated with reckless driving and eluding, said Gonzales.
We will update Friday when information about the arrests and official charges become available.
