Christmas tree cutting permits available for Pine Nuts, nearby Carson City BLM District mountains

CARSON CITY — Legislation from 1995 established Family Resource Centers in Nevada, and today FRCs provide information, referrals, and case management to residents in almost every urban center in the state. In a broad sense, FRCs work with local and state agencies and other groups to help individuals and families access needed services and support.

Internationally traveling band Blood Drum Spirit visited Carson High School on Tuesday to jam with students in Brian Fox’s orchestra classes. But it wasn’t a technical lesson.

Western Nevada College announced Tuesday that 32 students have qualified for the 2018 Summer Dean’s List.
To earn this recognition during the summer term, students attained a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and completed six units of classes or more. Students achieving the academic honor are:

SPARKS — The Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest welcomes Teresa McClung as the Deputy Forest Supervisor. In her new position, McClung will provide oversight and management of resources on the Forest’s 6.3 million acres.

A 33-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday night for felony suspicion of peeping, peering or spying into homes while in possession of a deadly weapon, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

UPDATE TUESDAY 9AM: According to Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon, investigators determined the Rifle Range fire was started by target shooting. It burned a total of 218 acres. Crews will continue to work throughout today suppressing hot spots and reinforcing containment lines. Full containment is expected by 7 p.m. Tuesday night.

CCFD acknowledges the Nevada Division of Forestry and Bureau of Land Management - Nevada for assisting with the fire and Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District and East Fork Fire Protection District for mutual aid in covering CCFD stations during the fire.

UPDATE 7:27PM: The Rifle Range fire is 50 percent contained with forward progress stopped. Carson City Fire Department will be releasing some fire crews this evening. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.

“A connection with nature and the cosmos were always fundamental for me,” Caitlin Jemma says. “As a teenager I didn’t appreciate it as much. But in retrospect, I’m really glad I had time in nature.”

The promising young singer and songwriter was raised on a country acre of land in the hillsides outside of Virginia City.

CARSON CITY — Students at Empire Elementary School began the 2018-2019 school year Monday with a special school assembly featuring music artist and motivational speaker, C.J. Luckey. The assembly kicked-off the first day of school by talking to the students about the power of the word “Yet.”

A 52-year-old South Lake Tahoe man was arrested in the area of North Curry and West Spear streets for felony suspicion of third DUI, driving on a revoked license, and following too close, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

YERINGTON — The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources announced Monday that Nevada’s newest state park, the Walker River State Recreation Area, will officially open to the public at the Pitchfork Ranch on Saturday, Sept. 22.
