Happening today: FISH collecting turkeys for High 5 Turkey Drive at Carson City Nissan
Today Friends in Service Helping, also known as FISH, is asking locals to donate a turkey so that Carson City area families in need can enjoy a Thanksgiving holiday meal. The annual High Five Turkey Drive started at 7 a.m. and will run to 7 p.m. tonight at Nissan Carson City.
Organizers say they are especially in great need of turkeys this year for the annual holiday food drive. Turkeys, plus traditional sides will be used for holiday baskets where families can cook a Thanksgiving meal at home. Turkeys will also be used for the 64th annual Thanksgiving feast at Carson Nugget.
Community members are encouraged to donate a frozen turkey, plus any canned goods and dry sides such as stuffing or potatoes or they can donate $10 at the event where FISH will do the shopping for them.
Nissan Carson City is located at 2750 S Carson St, Carson City.
Meanwhile, if you miss this turkey drive, this Saturday you can make food donations across from the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City.
Help feed your neighbors in need this year by donating to the Rotary Club of Carson City Food Drive. The event takes place Saturday, Nov. 13 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 400 W. King Street in Carson City.
Rotarians will have a tent set up at that location which is directly across from the Brewery Arts Center. Club members will be collecting food for the upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday as well as food for pets.
“Carson Rotarians are eager to assist those in our community who otherwise would not have a Thanksgiving meal.” Said Rotary President Richard Perry. “This year we are partnering with two local organizations who help feed both people and pets, F.I.S.H and Feeding Pets of the Homeless.”
Those donating can drive up and a club member will take the donations right from the car. Items requested include: Turkeys, Chicken Broth, Green Beans, Corn, Cranberry Sauce, Yams, Stuffing, Gravy, and Instant or Fresh Potatoes. Rotarians are also asking for Dog food, Cat food, and Cat Litter. “We have learned how important pets are to families as well as homeless individuals”, Perry said. “We want to make sure they are cared for as well.”
Checks or cash will also gladly accepted.
