Veterans Day parades, events and observances in Carson City surrounding counties
This week there are a number of ways you can honor our local veterans and active military members, with several events planned throughout the region. Take a look to find all the parades, ceremonies, free admission and more happening this week and into the weekend.
- Carson City
Throughout the week, stop by the Carson Middle School campus for the annual Veterans Day display on the front lawn. Eagle Valley Middle School is also hosting a Vet Star Wall display Monday through Thursday in the main corridor of the school. Bordewich-Bray Elementary School will host their annual Veteran's Day assembly. For more information, see our previous reporting here.
On Thursday, Nov. 9 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., WNC's Wildcat Veterans Club will host a free community barbecue in front of the Dini Student Center. Games and door prizes are also planned, and donations to the WNC Wildcat Veterans Club are appreciated.
On Saturday, Nov. 11 the Fox is offering a burger and a draft beer for free at both its Carson City and Reno locations for veterans and active military all day. The Fox is located at 310 S. Carson St.
On Saturday, Nov. 11 Calvary Chapel is offering a free Veterans Day breakfast from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., and Sheriff Ken Furlong will be a guest speaker at 8 a.m. Calvary Chapel is located at 1635 E. Clearview Dr.
The Carson City Elks Lodge will host a Veterans Day Dinner at 6 p.m., free for veterans. The cost for non-veterans is $12. The menu served includes tri-tip, shrimp, beans, salad, bread, and dessert. Then, on Nov. 13, the Elks will host a Veterans Breakfast at 8 a.m. where veterans eat for free and will include speakers. The Elks Lodge is located at 515 N. Nevada Street.
RSVP and the Carson City Elks Lodge will also be hosting their third annual Senior Veteran Pancake Breakfast at the lodge where senior veterans eat for free on Saturday, Nov. 11 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada located at 813 N. Carson St. will be offering free admission to veterans and active military members Friday and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with 50 percent off for family members.
On Saturday, Nov. 11, Capitol City Gun Club in Carson City will host a Veterans Day Weekend Fun Shoot from 9:00am to 4:30pm. Target fees will be discounted all day. The Club offers Trap, Skeet, Five Stand, and Sporting Clays, and is located at 3590 Arrowhead Drive. For more information call (775) 882-9904. Everyone is invited.
Carson City Squeeze In is offering a free meal of up to $15 to veterans with proof of military card. Squeeze In is located at 308 N. Curry St.
- Virginia City
The annual Veterans Day Parade in Virginia City will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday on C Street, which will be led by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8071 color guard of Virginia City, and a number of entries are expected in the parade including local Junior ROTC student groups.
- Reno
The annual Veterans Day Parade will begin at 11:11 a.m. on Nov. 11 in downtown Reno. This year, the theme of the parade is "service." The parade take place on Virginia Street between Sixth and Liberty. Opening ceremonies will conclude with a City of Reno proclamation, and the parade will begin at 11:30 a.m. following the opening ceremony.
Throughout November, the National Automobile Museum will be hosting "A Salute to Service" installation in honor of Veterans Day, which includes General Patton's 1942 Jeep, General Pershing's overseas limousine, and several other vehicles that have served American troops oversees.
- Sparks
The Nevada veterans Memorial Plaza will be hosting an observance on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and visitors are encouraged to take a moment to honor the 896 fallen Nevadan veterans listed on the wall. Flowers are donated by Sparks Florist, and the NVMP team will be on site to give a tour of the memorial as well as provide handouts for self-guided tours.
