Carson City area weather: Wind and rain in the valleys, snow in the Sierra and foothills
The sunny and pleasant fall weather Carson City has experienced the past couple weeks will come to an end Friday as the season’s first significant storm system moves into the region bringing wind and rain to the valleys and snow in the Sierra with the potential of lower elevation snow by Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
For the Carson City and Carson Valley areas, gusty winds will arrive Friday and last through Saturday, according to the weather service, with the best chance for rain and foothill snow showers Saturday morning into the afternoon.
Snow levels should fall below 6,000 feet by Saturday evening, but much of the precipitation will have ended by that time, according to the weather service.
A secondary wave, however, may bring additional chances for rain and snow Sunday night into Monday morning, with snow levels in the 4,500 to 5,500 foot range with the potential to impact Monday morning’s commute, according to the weather service.
For the Sierra, gusty winds, rain and snow beginning Friday, with moderate to heavy rain and snow Friday night into Saturday. Additional light snow is possible Sunday night into Monday. Travel will be difficult at times. For Lake Tahoe, up to 2 feet of snow is possible with the weather systems.
There is a Winter Storm Warning for Lake Tahoe and the Sierra from 11 a.m. Friday to 11 p.m. Saturday.
