Be sure to don your cutest costumes or your scariest masks Tuesday, Oct. 31 for the capital city tradition of trick-or-treating at the Governor’s Mansion in Carson City.
Gov. Joe Lombardo and First Lady Donna Lombardo will be outside the mansion handing out candy to the hundreds of trick-or-treaters expected to attend.
Trick-or-treating at the mansion will be available from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., located at 606 Mountain St.
This will be the first year Gov. Lombardo and the First Lady will be in the capital city for Halloween, and the west side is already decking out their spookiest decorations in preparation for the city-wide event.
As Halloween approaches, parents and guardians are gearing up for costumes, candy, and creativity. While it's a time for family fun, it's also crucial to prioritize safety to ensure an enchanting and secure celebration for all.
Community Ambulance has some essential Halloween safety tips to help parents and guardians navigate the festivities responsibly.
Costume Safety: This Halloween, prioritize safety for your little ghouls and goblins. Choose costumes that fit well, are flame-resistant, and are easy to spot in the dark. Add reflective tape to costumes and treat bags for increased visibility. Don't forget to patch-test makeup and masks to avoid allergic surprises.
Trick-or-Treat Supervision: Keep a watchful eye on your kids as they embark on their spooky adventure. Younger children should always be accompanied while trick-or-treating. Older kids going solo should stick together and follow a predefined route, with a set curfew for their return.
Road Safety: Ensure a safe journey through the night. Remind your little monsters to stay on sidewalks and use crosswalks when crossing streets. For added visibility, have them carry a flashlight or glow stick, as drivers may struggle to spot small pedestrians.
Candy Inspection: Before indulging in their sweet loot, inspect your child's Halloween candy. Discard any unwrapped or suspicious items. Keep a close eye out for potential allergens, and make sure your child knows to seek help if they experience any adverse reactions.
Home Decor Safety: Get your home Halloween-ready without the scares. Keep decorations away from walkways and ensure they are well-lit to prevent tripping hazards. Instead of real candles in jack-o'-lanterns, go for the safer option of battery-operated lights to keep the spooky vibe without the fire risk.
Pumpkin Carving: Carving pumpkins can be a spooktacular family activity, but it comes with risks. Children should never handle sharp tools without adult supervision. Consider safer alternatives like pumpkin decorating kits or stickers to avoid any Halloween mishaps.
Pet Safety: Don't forget about your furry friends during the Halloween excitement. Loud noises and unfamiliar costumes can stress out pets. To avoid accidents or escapes, keep them in a quiet, safe space away from the festivities. Their comfort and safety are essential during this spooky season.
