Carson Middle School 6/7th grade girls win Tah-Neva Basketball Championship
The Carson Middle School seventh-grade girls basketball team concluded their undefeated season last Saturday, Oct. 19, by first defeating Alder Creek and Pau-Wa-Lu in the tournament before their crowning, hard-fought victory over Carson Valley Middle School.
The feat was particularly significant because the team was primarily made up of sixth-graders. Of the 12 players on the team, only two were seventh-graders.
The team, led by Dre Hoff, head coach, and John Dunbar, assistant coach, demonstrated exceptional teamwork, skill and determination throughout the season. From the very first practice, the players committed to working hard, supporting one another and giving their best every game. The team’s championship victory marks an exciting future for the girls basketball program in Carson City, with many players set to move on to higher levels of competition in the coming years.
Team members include the following (listed in order of their jersey number): Addie Cox, No. 1; Victoria Quintana, No. 3; Myah Brewster, No. 4; Ainsley McAllister, No. 5; Maggie Ray, No. 10; Maddi Camper, No. 11; Alice Olivas, No. 14; Emma Schwering, No. 15; Elodie Paslov, No. 20; Evelyn Castillo, No. 21; Junely Dunbar, No. 23 and Imaya Contreras, No. 30. Maddi Camper and Elodie Paslov are the only two seventh-graders on the team. The rest are sixth-graders.
It is also important to note the majority of the seventh-grade girls at Carson Middle School played up on the eighth-grade team.
