Carson City arrests: Suspect jailed for felony fraud offenses in alleged check cashing scheme
A 49-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday for alleged felony offenses in a fraudulent check cashing scheme, according to the Carson City Sheriff's Office.
Jennifer Ann Anzalone was taken into custody following an investigation into alleged fraudulent check cashing in September under a false name at an East William Street casino.
According to the booking report, a traffic stop made made on northbound I-580 just north of Fairview Drive onramp. The vehicle, a Dodge ram pickup, had expired registration.
A K9 was called to the scene of the stop and alerted positive for drugs inside the vehicle. A search was completed and methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia was located in the vehicle, as well as evidence recovered that was involved in fraudulent check cashing.
A red wallet seen being used by the suspect of the investigation at Gold Dust West was recovered during the search. The red wallet contained casino players cards with the false name used by the suspect. The Nevada driver's license with that false name was located.
The license information returned accurately with all the real identifying information, the report states. An accordion file folder was also located inside the pickup, which contained identifying information of other individuals and checks in the name of several people, including the false name of the suspect, the report states.
A detective interviewed Anzalone in which the suspect admitted to the detective of cashing fraudulent checks under the false name. Based on the information and evidence, the suspect was arrested for four counts of uttering a forged check on Sept. 18, Sept. 19, Sept. 21 and Sept. 22.
She was also booked for suspicion of use of identification of another with intent to harm and obtaining money under false pretenses. A warrant was later submitted which alleges felony embezzlement, $25,000 or greater. Bail: $50,000.
