CHS football recap: Mustangs spoil senior night for Senators, 39-7
A total of 24 senior Senators ran their final strides on home turf Friday night in a 39-7 loss to Damonte Ranch on Senior Night at Carson High School.
The loss puts Carson High in a playoff positioning battle against the Douglas Tigers.
The Mustangs’ offense came out firing on all cylinders. Quarterback Cade McNamara tossed four touchdowns in the game, including a ferocious 80-yard drive capped by a 5-yard scoring pass to Tai Allison.
That score put Damonte Ranch on the board first, 7-0, to conclude the first quarter.
After an offensive lull by both teams, the McNamara-Allison connection struck once again for Damonte Ranch. The Mustangs capitalized on the gain with a 10-yard touchdown reception that extended their lead to 13-0 before the halftime whistle.
The third quarter opened up right where the game left off with McNamara throwing his third touchdown strike of the game came to Dru Jacobs for a 24-yard score.
Carson High failed to make any ground on offense, keeping the match-up heavily in the Mustangs' favor.
The flood gates continued to open for Damonte Ranch, which proceeded to tally a total of 20 points in the fourth quarter.
A blocked punt recovered in the end zone by the Mustang special teams unit added six more points to the scoreboard, followed by a 66-yard dart from McNamara to Hunter Dunithan that kept the contest tightly in the visitors' grasp.
With the game winding down to its final minutes, Carson’s offense found a form of life, thanks to running back Abel Carter's 20-yard scamper that put the Senators on the board at last, 39-7.
Key performers for Damonte Ranch included Cade McNamara (24-28 completions, 359 yards, 4 TDs) and Tai Allison (6 receptions, 100 yards, 2 TDs).
Key performers for Carson included Abel Carter (15 carries, 69 yards, 1 TD), and Jon Laplante (2-5 completions, 20 yards passing, 9 carries, 24 yards rushing).
The Senators recorded just 129 yards of total offense. Countless penalties on both sides of the ball killed any momentum in Damonte Ranch territory.
Combine that with McNamara’s ability to strike at any defensive mistake, and that proved to be a recipe for disaster. Despite the tough loss, many seniors will cherish the night and bid farewell to the CHS football program.
Abel Carter described his emotions after the game.
“It is just crazy right now,” he said. “I wish we could've walked away with the win, but we left it all out there on the field. The fans made it such a great experience to play here every game.”
Following a bye week, CHS will look to rebound in a big way against rival Douglas.
