Nevada Guard all aboard for military training at State Railroad Museum in Carson City
The Nevada Guard’s 92nd Civil Support Team used the unique features of the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City on Thursday to prepare for its upcoming proficiency evaluations.
The 22 Soldiers and Airmen in the Carson City-based unit searched for mock radioactive materials in the antiquated passenger train carriages stored on the west side of the museum grounds.
The CST is the Nevada Guard’s unit that provides Nevada’s civilian emergency managers and first responders a military asset with Soldiers and Airmen trained to quickly assist in the wake of natural and man-made disasters.
The upcoming evaluation will assess the team’s ability to respond to a wide spectrum of contingencies, including potentially harmful chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive situations.
Thursday’s exercise provided an opportunity for the entire team to participate in an exercise featuring established, realistic settings in the Capital City community in an economical manner.
Retired Maj. Dan Thielen, the State Museum Director, was instrumental in allowing the Nevada Guard to train at the Nevada State Railroad Museum facility.
The Nevada Guard’s training did not affect the patrons at the Nevada State Railroad Museum nor access to the museum. The Nevada State Railroad Museum, 2180 S. Carson Street, is open Thursday – Monday from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Call (775) 687-6953 for information.
