Senators football recap: Carter scores four, leads Carson to 41-20 homecoming victory
Friday night was homecoming in Carson City, an evening that capped a week of celebration at Carson High School (CHS) as the Senators lit up the field in a 41-20 victory over the North Valleys Panthers to the delight of the home crowd.
Carson High returned to its home field after a road series, looking to improve on its non-league record early into the season.
North Valleys ran free with the lead early in the first quarter as quarterback Breyden Beaumont launched an 80-yard touchdown to wide receiver Tyler Jones, putting the Panthers up 7-0.
On the next ensuing possession, CHS running back Abel Carter coasted to the end zone on a four-yard stretch play, knotting the game up at 7-7 with seven minutes remaining in the first quarter.
Points continued to stack up for the Senators after a blocked punt by Carter led to a scoop and score, putting the home team up 14-7 and making it the second touchdown of the game for Carter.
After an offensive lull by both teams, wide receiver Jalen Weaver’s leaping 30-yard touchdown reception tied the game at 14.
The CHS offense got the rowdy student section back in the game as Carter blasted up the middle of the Panther defense, resulting in a 69-yard scamper to the end zone.
That score put the Senators back on top with a 21-14 lead before the halftime celebrations.
During the intermission, a special ceremony conducted by the CHS band and ROTC program introduced the crowning of the 2017 Fall Homecoming King, Tobi Arreola, and Queen, Hannah Golik.
Both Arreola and Golik received a standing ovation from the crowd, and much praise from their fellow contestants, making it quite the night to remember.
CHS then returned to the field and took care of business in the second half.
Interceptions from Carter, Kyle Glanzmann, and Terrin Keller kept the slim lead in the Senators’ grasp.
During the third quarter, CHS running back Chance Smith sprinted his way to a 74-yard touchdown, increasing Carson High's lead by two scores, 28-14.
A one-two combination of Carter’s fourth touchdown on the night and CHS running back Kyle Rudy’s one-yard score put the tie on the bow for the Senators, who improved to 3-2 on the season with the homecoming victory.
After the game, CHS linebacker Richard Romero described the impact of this win in front of such a large crowd.
“It feels great to win, “ Romero said. “There is lots of room for improvement, but we will accept this victory. And we will look to continue that throughout the season.”
Key performers for North Valleys included Breyden Beaumont (261 yards, 3 TDs), Tyler Jones (3 catches, 95 yards, 2 TDs), Jalen Weaver (3 catches, 143 yards, 1 TD), and Matt McBride (1 interception).
For Carson High, key performers included: Abel Carter (20 carries, 195 yards 4 TDs, including 3 rushing scores and 1 defensive score), Chance Smith (5 carries, 89 yards, 1 TD) and Kyle Rudy (5 carries, 42 yards, 1 TD).

The Senators will look to carry this win into Galena next Friday.
