103rd Annual Candy Dance returns to Genoa this weekend
The first Candy Dance was held in Genoa in 1919, and came about as a fundraiser to purchase street lights for the tiny town tucked away against the Sierra mountains in the Carson Valley.
Now, over 100 years later, the annual Arts and Crafts Fair is still being held.
With more than 300 arts and crafts vendors, food vendors, activities and more, the Candy Dance of today would surely shock those early attendees.
The Candy Dance is an all-day event Saturday and Sunday beginning at 9 a.m. throughout the town of Genoa.
While many park along the main road and simply walk, you can also opt for shuttle service.
Shuttles bring people from the main parking lots on Genoa Lane and Foothill Road, as well as the Genoa Cemetery and limited parking beside the Pink House, right into downtown Genoa.
This year, the Dinner-Dance will be held Saturday, Sept. 24 at the Genoa Town Park from 4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., with dinner service beginning at 5:30 p.m.
The Dinner-Dance is a ticketed event, and sells out quickly. You can purchase tickets by calling 775-782-8696.
