Southwest Gas honors Carson City Search and Rescue with $5K donation
Recently, the Carson City Sheriff’s Search and Rescue was honored with a $5,000 donation from the Southwest Gas Foundation in recognition of the commendable resource the 23-crew member volunteer unit is to the community.
Southwest Gas established the “BLUE — Building Lives Up Everywhere” employee volunteer initiative, driven to inspire colleagues to give back to community service members already giving their all.
“Southwest Gas is proud to honor Carson City Search and Rescue for their tremendous efforts to serve and protect our community, especially during the pandemic. We are grateful to assist these fine volunteer officers continuing their important mission assisting residents in need,” said Brad Harris, Vice President California and Northern Nevada Divisions.
The Carson City Sheriff’s SAR, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, performs wilderness and urban searches along with a myriad of other tasking. During the summer months the need for SAR amplified, as fire activity grew in the surrounding region SAR supported many public safety functions, including evacuations. During the start of the pandemic SAR remained ready to respond, volunteering for numerous callouts for missing persons, evidence searches, major events, and all the while, continued training.
“Carson City Sheriff's Search and Rescue truly appreciates the recognition provided by Southwest Gas and its employees,” said Search and Rescue Unit Commander Dave Spencer. “The monetary donation and efforts of the company's volunteer BLUE Team could not have come at a better time. COVID response and fire activity have had a dramatic negative impact on the region over the last eighteen months which includes fundraising efforts by all non-profits. This donation will be of great use to our Unit as we work to keep our personnel trained and ready to serve our community. Thank you again!”
