Carson City arrests: Man seen in video punching victim, taking his backpack jailed for robbery
A 44-year-old man was arrested Tuesday for suspicion of robbery after allegedly punching another man in the face and stealing his backpack, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office report.
Esiquio Hernandez was taken into custody at 12:53 p.m. in the 900 block of Roop Street. He was also booked for misdemeanor suspicion of possessing drug paraphernalia.
According to the arrest report, the suspect allegedly punched a male victim multiple times in the head and face in the 100 block of East Long Street, causing him to fall to the ground. The suspect then took the man's backpack, telling him "you are going to be cold tonight."
Three witnesses, including one with video, were able to identify the suspect and told CCSO deputies what they saw.
Later deputies received information that the suspect was outside the library in the 900 block of East Roop Street. The suspect matched the description of the person in the video seen by the CCSO investigating deputy. The suspect attempted to leave but stopped after a deputy yelled at him to come back.
The suspect had a large knife on the right side of his belt in plain view. A deputy ordered the man to drop the knife on the grass. The man complied and was patted down for weapons. He was read his Miranda warning and he agreed to speak.
He told deputy he was upset with the man and punched him in the face and took his backpack, discarding it around the corner of the where incident took place. He was arrested for suspicion of robbery. At jail during intake, a broken glass pipe with white residue was found in his possession. Bail: $41,000.

— A 45-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday for suspicion of misdemeanor violation of a temporary protection order against domestic violence.
According to the booking report, the man was on the front steps of an apartment in the 700 block of Silver Oak Drive. A photograph with a timestamp of the man, was obtained and showed him sitting on the steps of the apartment at 4:04 p.m. Tuesday.
The man had been arrested for domestic battery at the residence in the complex and a temporary protection order had been served to him on Monday. Bail: $1,137.
— A 56-year-old San Andreas, Calif., woman was arrested Monday for a misdemeanor contempt of court warrant issued out of Carson City District Court in July 2021. Bail: $10,000.
