Discussion at REI will be on invasive species at Lake Tahoe and other regional waters
The Lake Tahoe Resource Conservation District is calling all boaters, anglers, paddlers, swimmers and water-lovers to attend a talk on September 26, 6:30pm at REI, 2225 Harvard Way, Reno to learn about the spread of aquatic invasive species.
Asian clams, zebra and quagga mussels and invasive weeds like Eurasian water milfoil are just a few of the plants and critters that currently threaten local waters in the Lake Tahoe and Northern Nevada region.
These pests could cost millions to the local economy and irreparably damage our environment, affecting everyone in the region. The Tahoe Resource Conservation District works with dozens of partner organizations and agencies to protect Lake Tahoe and the Truckee River watershed by implementing programs aimed to prevent and control the spread of aquatic invasive species. The Tahoe RCD will share information about current prevention programs as well as what boaters can expect in 2013. Staff from Nevada Department of Wildlife will be discussing the NV Watercraft Decal program that will go into effect on January 1, 2013.
Space is limited. Register here or find a link to the event registration at www.tahoercd.org.
