Carson City Sheriff's Office Motor Training Competition sees brand new riders in its 19th year
Police officers from all over came to Carson City to participate in the 19th Motor Training Competition to test their skills and practice the course.
This year, officers from San Francisco, North Las Vegas, Highway Patrol’s Northern Command, Douglas County and even civilian riders came together to share ideas about safety on their motorcycles.
“One reason why these events are really unique and good is because it brings the opportunity to bring people from all over to share ideas in the same place,” said Deputy Joey Trotter.
The event also brings out plenty of community members to engage on their trips. According to the deputy, plenty of people come to learn safety tips for motorcycle riding or simply watch because of their passion for the cycles.
“This is a real life scenario,” CCSO Sgt. Matt Smith said. “The basic motors schools give you the foundation to ride safely as a police-motored officer, but they’re always looking for ways to intensify the stress … so that way when sudden things happen in front of you, you have that skill set [to] be a better, safer rider for yourself and the public too.”
The two CCSO officers said the hope is for their 20th year, they’ll get to make the motorcycle training competition an even bigger event in Carson City.
