Carson City Sheriff's deputies make weekend arrests for domestic battery, DUI and drugs

A 45-year-old man was arrested August 30 for misdemeanor suspicion of domestic battery and destruction of property, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Deputies were called to a report of a domestic battery and spoke with the victim, who stated the suspect punched her on the left side of the face.

The officer noticed minor swelling where she got hit. She advised the man shattered her front windshield and that she went to her storage unit to gather some belongings and noticed as she was leaving the man was near the exit of the storage unit, the report states.

She said the man began arguing with her about the tires on her vehicle. She said the man became upset and punched her on the left side of her face. She said the man then shattered her windshield with an unknown object and advised that when she called 911 the man began rubbing rocks on his knees in an attempt to make it look like she somehow battered him, the report states.

A deputy interviewed the man, who said he confronted the woman about the tires on her vehicle and said he wanted them back because he paid for them. He said he was standing in the front of the vehicle while talking and claimed the woman ran him over. The officer asked the man to clarify how he was run over. The man said she simply let go of the brake and the car ran into him, the report states.

He showed the officer his knees where the officer observed some redness. The man walked to the woman's vehicle to show his injury, which lined up with the license plate frame. He said he threw an air compressor at the woman's windshield, which broke it. He then admitted to reaching in the vehicle and slapping her in the face. He motioned his right hand in a striking manner, the report states.

A deputy recontacted the woman and asked her about hitting the man with her vehicle. She said she never hit the man with her vehicle and showed the officer a video of the incident. The video showed the man standing approximately 10 to 15 feet away from the vehicle and showed him yelling at the woman and that once she called 911 the man grabbed some rocks and rubbed them on his knees. The officer observed a small pile of rock debris near the man's vehicle.

The officer placed the man in custody for domestic battery as it was determined he was the primary aggressor. The woman also advised she wanted to pursue charges for destruction of property for her damaged windshield. Bail: $3,000 for domestic battery and $1,000 for destruction of property.

In other arrests:
— A 33-year-old man was arrested Monday for allegedly destroying property and felony parole violation, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office report.

Fredrick McKenna was taken into custody at 3:30 p.m. following an investigation. According to the booking report, deputies were called to a Pioche Street address in reference to a dispute. Dispatch advised they heard a male and female arguing on the phone and could hear items breaking.

Deputies arrived and learned the man had run out of the back door. Deputies located the man standing on the side of the house. Dispatch advised he was actively on parole. Deputies observed the man to be grossly intoxicated and was swaying back and forth, trying not to lose his balance, the report states.

The man walked toward the officer with his hands clenched and became verbally aggressive, swore at the officers and asked what they were going to do.

The officer asked the man to calm down and to explain what happened. He continued yelling obscenities and stood in a bladed stance, with his fist still clenched. He began walking away from the officers, going into the backyard. A deputy told him to stop walking away and to talk to them. The man stepped back toward the officer, where he was detained, handcuffed and taken to a patrol vehicle.

Officers spoke with the reporting party who advised the man had broken the windshield on her car and a chair inside her home and that she would like to press charges for destruction of property, the report states.

A deputy asked the man if he would provide a preliminary breath test. The man agreed and provided a result of .371. He was taken to the hospital for medical clearance due to the high alcohol content and released.

He is being held without bail hold for the parole violation. Bail for property destruction, a gross misdemeanor, $2,500.

— A 36-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday for suspicion of Department of Alternative Sentencing violation, driving with a suspended license and open container. Bail: $3,000 cash.

— A 64-year-old Dayton man, Nemesio Pineda, was booked early Tuesday into Carson City Jail for a felony warrant alleging possession with intent to utter a fictitious bill, note or check of an older, vulnerable person.

The warrant was issued April 20, 2024 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $5,000.

— A 36-year-old man was arrested early Tuesday for suspicion of misdemeanor obstruction, disorderly conduct and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a Carson City sheriff's office booking report. Bail: $1,000.

— An 18-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday for suspicion of failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, basic speeding, 100 in a 65 mph zone and driving without a valid license.

According to the booking report, a deputy observed a vehicle in the area of I-580 going an estimated 100 mph northbound. Radar confirmed 95 mph in a posted 65 mph zone.

The deputy activated their emergency lights and siren. The vehicle did not yield or brake and continued accelerating northbound. The officer pursued for approximately two miles when the vehicle suddenly pulled into the median, the report states.

The officer ordered the driver out of the vehicle and told him to walk back toward him. The man followed directions and a pat down was completed. The officer spoke with him briefly and did not notice an odor of alcohol or narcotics coming from him. He provided his Nevada ID card. He showed a clear status and ID card status only. He was taken into custody. Total bail amount listed: $1,071.

— A 26-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday for suspicion of domestic battery. According to the booking report deputies made contact with the victim, who was crying and visibly upset. She had an odor of alcohol coming from her person.

The victim showed officers her phone, where she recorded the incident. Officers observed in the video the man knocked the phone out of the victim's hands. He is seen pushing the woman twice, where she fell to the ground, the report states. The woman said she wanted the man arrested. The officer did not see any apparent injuries. She declined medical attention.

A deputy spoke with the man. He was asked why his shirt was ripped. He said nothing. The officer didn't see any apparent injuries on the man. The officer asked what happened. The man declined he was verbally arguing with the woman, saying he was trying to prevent the verbal argument from escalating.

He denied the argument ever became physical. The officer asked if he and the woman fight often and the man said they have had prior disputes but they never did get physical. The man told the officer that the woman usually starts arguing with him and attempts to escalate the situation and that is why he left. He said when he saw patrol cars in the area, he turned around after having left, to meet with CCSO deputies.

He provided a preliminary breath test with a result of .243. Due to the video footage, the man was determined to be the primary aggressor and was arrested. Bail: $3,137.

— A 22-year-old Carson City man, Jon Rolland Lindberg, was arrested August 31 for suspicion of felony possession of a controlled substance, suspected cocaine, gross misdemeanor offense, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail: $2,500.

— A 51-yer-old Carson City man, Jackson Sutton, was arrested August 31 for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, suspected methamphetamine, and gross misdemeanor possession of a dangerous drug without a prescription, alprazolam. Bail: $2,500.

– A 34-year-old Carson City man was arrested August 31 for suspicion of domestic battery. According to the booking report, deputies were called to a domestic battery at a bar in the 100 block of Telegraph Street.

A deputy was waved down by the reporting party who pointed out where the male suspect was located. The reporting party advised the man pushed a female and held her by her arms against the wall.

The deputy saw the man arguing with a group of women. The man was uncooperative and placed into cuffs. The officer relocated the man away from the area where people were and placed him with another deputy by a patrol car.

A deputy spoke with the victim who advised she was not choked but said she was held by the arms against a wall. The victim advised the man was sleeping in the bar and she told him it was time to go and that was when he began to get verbal and argumentative with her.

Officers spoke with several witnesses, who all provided statements and informed officers that they saw the man hold the woman by her arms against the wall next to the bar, the report states.

The deputy returned to the man, who continued to deny that anything had happened. He was informed he was under arrest. He became to become verbally and passively resistive, the report states, and began kicking the door and yelling from inside the vehicle. Bail: $3,147.

— A 40-year-old Carson City man was arrested August 30 for suspicion of second offense DUI.

According to the report, deputies were dispatched the area of Mills Park for a possible DUI driver. Dispatch advised the reporting party saw a vehicle drive through the grass.

Officers arrived and located the vehicle that was parked in two parking spots. The driver was speaking with two other people and was stumbling back and forth. The officer could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath. The man denied driving the vehicle. Inside was an open 18-pack of beer.

Officers spoke with the reporting party and asked what they saw. The RP advised they had seen the man drive into grass where she was sitting with her kids and that he was driving recklessly, trying to turn around. The RP further advised the man parked his vehicle and got out, stumbling around. The RP advised they wished to press charges.

The man was informed that the deputy wanted to run preliminary tests. He stated he drank only two beers. He did the tests and showed signs of impairment on the tests. He provided a preliminary breath test of .250 and was arrested for suspicion of DUI. Bail: $2,637.

— A 23-year-old Carson City woman was arrested August 30 for suspicion of domestic battery.

According to the booking report deputies were dispatch to a Brown Street residence for a daughter who allegedly battered her mother.

Deputies arrived on scene and located the victim, who had a noticeable bite mark on her left forearm and was in tears. She stated she was on a video call when her daughter began yelling at her about the phone. She said she did not have her daughter's phone. She stated that her daughter then bit her on the arm and then left the residence.

Deputies interview the suspect, who stated that her mother was antagonizing her and so she bit her in the arm. She was arrested for suspicion of domestic battery. Bail: $3,147.

This week's pet of the week is Grammy. Grammy is a 9-year-old Pit Bull Terrier Mix and the sweetest of the golden girls. Grammy came to us as a stray, so we are still learning her true colors.

The morning briefing is out as of 9 a.m. Thursday, during which officials said crews on scene kept containment on all sides of the fire. Those evacuated from Washoe Valley have been allowed to return.

Good morning, Carson Now readers, here’s our update for Thursday morning.

Outlook on the Davis Fire is positive but is dependent entirely on the weather, according to fire officials during a Wednesday press conference that included officials from Washoe County, Truckee Meadows Fire, NV Energy and more.

As of 5 p.m. Wednesday, however, all active fires are currently within containment lines, which so far, have all been holding.

Several buildings were destroyed during Saturday's blaze from the Davis Fire in the old 395 corridor in Washoe City. The area was shut down for some time in part due to downed power lines which have since been removed.

I've been taking my dogs to beautiful Silver Saddle Ranch in Carson City for nine years and have seen many, many coyotes.

UPDATE 330PM: The NV Energy outage has grown to 2,635 customers in Carson City without power. NV Energy earlier had advised that it was canceling its Public Safety Outage Management (PSOM) watch for south Carson City, Genoa and Glenbrook areas but did advise outages are possible today due to weather events.

Firefighters on the Davis Fire achieved 31 percent containment overnight on the west side of the fire. Firefighters are bracing for gusty winds today, which has prompted a rare PDS Red Flag Warning.

Carson City students and teachers celebrate passion and creativity for National Arts in Education Week, Sept. 9-13, during instruction time, at lunch and before and after school.

A 37-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday for suspicion of grand larceny, obtaining money under false pretenses and obtaining or using an ID of another person, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has been made aware of numerous emails sent to Douglas County residents in an attempt to fraudulently obtain money by threatening means.

As of Wednesday morning, additional evacuation warning zones have been added throughout South Reno. As of 11 a.m., evacuation warnings have extended as far north as McCarren and Kietzke, while the area west of 395 including the Summit Mall is included.

The City of Las Vegas posted on social media that fire crews are headed to Reno to help support fire stations while crews continue to battle the Davis Fire.

UPDATE: Carson City Fire Department, sheriff's deputies and Nevada Highway Patrol responded Wednesday morning to a vehicle crash on Highway 50 East and Flint Drive.

While containment grew to 31 percent on the Davis Fire, gusty winds will be a factor, prompting the National Weather Service in Reno to issue a rare PDS Red Flag Warning, also known as "Potentially Dangerous Situation" Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. for the Sierra Front.

Based on extensive discussions with public safety officials and considering the erratic behavior seen from the Davis Fire and deteriorating conditions, all schools in the Washoe County School District will be canceled Wednesday, Sept. 11.

There will be a community meeting at 7 p.m. tonight, Tuesday, that will provide Davis Fire updates. It will feature the Complex Incident Command team, including a meteorologist and fire behavior team. It will be at 7 p.m.
