Carson City Fire Department called to fire at landfill
Carson City Fire Department responded Sunday evening to the city landfill off Highway 50 East for a fire.
At around 7 p.m. dispatch was advised of smoke in the area of the landfill. Carson City Fire Department arrived and confirmed the fire. The landfill is located off Highway 50 East at 3600 Flint Rd.
Public works has been notified and other engines are responding. Fires at the landfill have become quite common over the years and are believed to be caused by discarded batteries among other combustibles.
As of 7:30 p.m. the fire was estimated to be at 100 feet by 50 feet. There isn't a current threat of extension into the nearby wild land, according to Eastern Sierra Fire and Ice.
