Carson City Fire Department was called Sunday afternoon to the Brunswick Canyon area for an injured motorcycle rider in the backcountry. A CareFlight helicopter was ordered and landed in the area near the patient.
Dispatch was alerted by the 49-year-old male rider via cell phone at around 3:25 p.m. that he was around 6 miles in the canyon along the river near the Carson City, Lyon County line.
The fire department sent a rescue team into the canyon. A battalion chief noted the area is difficult to get into, and required an all-terrain RZR vehicle. Dispatch advised the patient was conscious and alert but suffered a traumatic injury.
The battalion chief advised he had spoken to the dirt bike rider to narrow down where he was located to facilitate the emergency response.
We will update as more information becomes available.
