Evacuation shelters fill in Carson City, evacuees told to go to Reno-Sparks Convention Center

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office 16th Annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge was back at Mills Park Thursday.

The training event was open to current certified motor officers and the public for spectating. Motor officers were training, riding and discussing riding techniques with various motor instructors.

Blinky Man, the Carson City tradition combining bikes, bars, costumes, and fun hit the capital city’s streets once again Friday night for their “Summer Solstice Ride,” one of their two rides each year.

Participants started at the Tap Shack in festive costumes and bicycles decked in lights, fur, and all manner of decoration, before riding to the Fox, the Feisty Goat, the Pourhouse, and ending the night at Living the Good Life.

Silver Springs, Nev. – Celebrate Independence Day the old fashioned way with traditional games, homemade toys and crafts, and sweet treats from the 1800s. Activities for all ages will include: sack races, three-legged races, quoits (ring toss), bean bag toss, baseball, watermelon seed spitting contest, and hand-cranked ice cream. Our 14th annual “BOPS” concert, conducted by Maestro James Rawie, is a delightful summer event that we perform at Carson Valley United Methodist Church in Gardnerville on Sunday, July 7 at 4 p.m.

A Family Bingo Night fundraiser for a local boy, Bryar Phelps, who was injured in a vehicle accident and is now in critical care, is scheduled for Saturday, June 22 at 5 p.m. in the Carson Mall Shopping Center.

All proceeds from the event will go toward Bryar and his family.

Heading into the weekend, there's a bevy of events around the Carson City region that brings a cool breeze to the first three days of summer. The 16th Motor Officer Challenge kicks off Friday at 7 a.m. at Mills Park. Lace up the shoes for a Friday morning walk at East Silver Saddle Ranch hosted by Muscle Powered.

UPDATE 7:39PM: A runaway, juvenile Christian Zarate, was found safe in Reno by the Carson City Sheriff's Office with the assistance of the Nevada Highway Patrol. Two other juveniles were also found with him and are in law enforcement custody.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division is asking the public’s help in finding a runaway juvenile teen male.

The Capital City Community Band and the Mile High Jazz Band Association, in cooperation with Carson Middle School, will present a free Summer Showcase Band Concert on Sunday, June 23, 2019, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Brewery Arts Center’s outdoor stage at Minnesota and King streets in Carson City, the same stage used for the Levitt Amp concerts. Some seating is available, and the public is invited to bring chairs.

After Tahoe's celebrated July Fourth festivities, our beaches are thrashed with trash, which can hurt wildlife and lake clarity.

Each year, hundreds of Tahoe residents and visitors turn out for our largest cleanup of the year to remove litter from our beaches. Help Keep Tahoe Blue by joining a beach cleanup site! We will provide cleanup materials, refreshments and raffle prizes.

He will explain how the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act (H.R. 763) could bring down the emissions fueling climate change by putting a price on carbon pollution and returning those revenues to households.

An Americorps National Civilian Community Corps Team, Green Four, will be working with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Mason Valley to mentor children enrolled in its summer program.

During the team’s six week engagement, the seven young adults will serve over 150 children spread between the Yerington, Silver Springs and Dayton Boys and Girls Club sites.
