'Keep Growing,' Carson City's newest artisan plant and wellness store, opens downtown
Keep Growing is Carson City's newest, locally-owned plant and wellness store, owned and operated by Carson City born and raised plant enthusiasts, Sarah Longero-Durham and her husband TJ.
Longero-Durham has always loved plants and wellness, but decided to dedicate her life to it after spending time as an interior designer.
"I realized that in that process, you're just filling your house with stuff, and you're not really giving anything back," said Longero-Durham of her career. "I needed a change."
Longero-Durham became interested in holistic wellness after being diagnosed with a number of auto-immune disorders, and found relief, including being 10 years seizure-free, from developing a holistic lifestyle and learning more about the medicinal qualities of plants.
"We've wanted to have a plant store for about three years now, but it really evolved to not only plants, but things we believe will really help with wellness and self-care in a substantial form."
Keep Growing is also dedicated to showcasing local wellness artisans, from candles made by Northern Nevada Candle Co., which donates a portion of their proceeds to suicide prevention, to teas that donate to cancer prevention, locally made clothes hand dyed with plant dyes, and much more.
"We wanted the store to be full circle, so that when you purchase certain items, you're giving back," said Longero-Durham. "Consumerism shouldn't just fill our voids, it should be used to fill other people's cups as well."
Keep Growing also offers wellness sessions in light therapy, with a state of the art crystal light table, which provides energy work to users as they lie upon a table filled with amethyst crystals that users to enter a meditative state.
Portions of the proceeds from the crystal light table will also be donated to a non-profit that is focused on therapies for people living with autism.
In the future, Longero-Durham also hopes to expand to nutritional coaching, which would function as a separate entity apart from Keep Growing, and would explore nutrition including special-made teas.
To learn more about Keep Growing, you can stop by their location at 403 N. Nevada Street located next to Artsy Fartsy, which is open Wednesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., or Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
"We encourage conscientious consumerism and are dedicated to the mission of sustainability and supporting local artisans," said Longero-Durham. "All of our products are made in house or are fair trade certified and purchased from small distributors, lessening our environmental impact. Every item purchased will support mission-driven causes. Together, we can re-create a conscious and ecological consumer market."
