Carson City weekend weather: Cool down ahead, gusty winds Sunday
With a cool down of temperatures around the Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas this weekend, there are also gusty winds expected to arrive Sunday, which has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Fire Weather Watch for much of northern and western Nevada.
The fire weather watch is in effect from Sunday afternoon through Sunday night, with southwest winds 15 to 25 mph to 40 mph gusts and low humidity in the Sierra and western Nevada. Humidity on Sunday will hover anywhere between 6 to 12 percent in western Nevada and 12 to 20 percent in the Sierra, according to the weather service.
The combination of gusty winds and low humidity can cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them.
The weather service advises people should avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires. Follow local fire restrictions. Check livingwithfire.info for preparedness tips.
Meanwhile, the temperatures around Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas will see a nice cool down compared to the triple digit temperatures experienced earlier this month.
Day time high temperatures will be in the upper 80s through Saturday and the low 80s on Sunday. Night time lows range from the upper 40s to low 50s.
