Law enforcement says submerged car, body inside is 'more than likely' missing Truckee teen
During a joint press conference Monday in Truckee, law enforcement said it is likely the body found in Prosser Creek Reservoir is that of missing 16-year-old Kiely Rodni. An autopsy is being conducted on Tuesday.
The non-profit dive recovery team, Adventures With Purpose, said they found Rodni's submerged vehicle in 14 feet of water on Sunday, April 21.
Nevada County Sheriff Shannon Moon said they believe the body is that of Kiely, but they will wait for the autopsy to confirm identity.
“We recovered the vehicle last night,” said Moon during Monday’s news conference. “We have located a decedent inside the vehicle. We believe it is our missing person. We have not been able to positively identify, but it’s more than likely.”
This remains an active investigation. CHP is conducting a thorough fatality traffic collision investigation and law enforcement is continuing its investigation. Since it is ongoing no specific details are being released at this time and the Nevada County Sheriff's Office could not comment if there was foul play involved.
Kiely was reported missing on August 6 after she attended a party with 200-300 juveniles and young adults at the Prosser Family Campground.
Law enforcement has said the last known trace from Kiely's cell phone was made the same night around 12:30 a.m. near the lake.
Over 15,000 man-hours were dedicated to finding Kiely over the last two weeks.
The car was removed from the water and transported to the FBI office for further investigation.
The law enforcement command center dedicated to the search said they were not contacted by Adventures with Purpose and found out about their claims to have found Kiely and the car on social media.
