Carson City’s Walk/Run to Remember 5K for Alzheimer’s returns Saturday with music, food trucks and more
This Saturday, Sept. 28, Carson City will host its third annual 5K Walk/Run to Remember benefit for the Northern Nevada Alzheimer's Association.
In addition to the race, there will be food trucks, live music, vendors and more.
"Walk/Run to Remember" events are held nationwide. Brenda Collings took on the challenge of organizing our own local event in the capital city as a way to help support NNAA's mission, which helped her personally when her parents struggled with Alzheimer’s.
“We are very excited to host this event for our community and have a variety of activities planned for during and after the race,” Collings said. “Among other things, there will be live music, raffle prizes, and a costume contest for attendees to showcase their purple in the most creative way!
So far across the previous two years, the event has raised $18,000 for the NNAA.
Not a runner but still want to contribute? The fun takes place at McFadden Plaza before, during and after the race.
"My goal is to make this a fun community event for all to get together in support of those affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia," said Collings.
The 5K will take place on Saturday, Sept. 28, beginning at McFadden Plaza, located at 223 W. 3rd Street in Carson City.
For those participating in the run, check in is at 8 a.m. and the race begins at 9 a.m.
