Carson City sheriff's deputies make drug, warrant related arrests

WASHOE VALLEY, Nev. — With close to 3,000 dead trees now removed, Nevada Division of Forestry crews have begun the lengthy process of planting trees and grasses on the Little Valley Fire burn scar.

After training exercises last month by the Carson City Fire Department, the old Thurman Ranch House, a family and basque style steak house that closed in 2013, is being cleared out.

The building has been unoccupied since closing. Last month the Carson City Fire Department used it for fire training purposes.

The owners of the property, Tim and Joyce Smith, agreed to have the buildings taken down on the property, which is 0.76 acres, according to the property's Real Estate Agent Bruce Robertson.

UPDATE 6:53PM: Inmate Steven Gant is in custody and headed back to Northern Nevada Correctional Center. He was apprehended at the Hyatt casino in Incline Village, said Brooke Keast, spokeswoman for the Nevada Department of Corrections.

The Mortimer and Mimi Levitt Foundation on Tuesday named Carson City as one of 15 small to mid-sized towns and cities across America to win a Levitt AMP Grant Award of $25,000 in matching funds to present a free concert series at the Minnesota Street Stage. The Brewery Arts Center has been a recipient of the grant for the third straight year.

Philip J. DuBois “Phil,” owner of DuBois Health Center since 1964, passed away on December 31, 2017. Phil was born November 6, 1932 to Roland and Lulu DuBois in Haverhill, Massachusetts. Phil attended Aggie, the Essex Agricultural and Technical High School, where he developed a passion and lifetime love for plant and animal sciences.
