Carson City sheriff's deputies make arrests for DUI, domestic battery
A 70-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday for suspicion of misdemeanor DUI, hit and run causing property damage and failure to report a crash, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
Deputies were called to a bar and restaurant in the 3500 block of North Carson Street for a report of a crash in the parking lot. The reporting party advised to dispatch they believed the other driver was intoxicated.
Officers arrived and met with the parties involved. Officers spoke with victim who said that he and a friend went into gamble, returned to their truck and discovered the suspect vehicle had crashed into the side of it. There was no information left regarding the crash. The officer took photos and went into the establishment asking patrons if there was a Subaru that belonged to anyone. The suspect said it was his vehicle, the report states.
Deputies spoke with the man who said he didn't believe he hit anything and it was the other person that must have struck his vehicle. Officers observed the suspect to have red, watery eyes and slurred speech and an odor of alcohol on his breath.
The man advised he went into the bar and restaurant and ordered a beer but didn't have very much of it. The deputy asked the man for his license, registration and proof of insurance. The man appeared to have a difficult time finding documentation and spent an unusually long amount of time looking through his wallet for his registration and insurance.
The man kept giving the officer his health insurance card. The officer advised him that most people keep their vehicle paperwork in the vehicle. The man stated it should be in his wallet. After many failed attempted, the man asked the officer if he could look in his car. The officer told him that was OK. The two walked over to the driver's side of the vehicle, where the man searched for the documents.
The man was asked if he would submit to standardized field sobriety tests. The man agreed. He said he had been drinking at a bar downtown and that he drove his vehicle to the restaurant and bar on North Carson Street. The man showed signs of impairment on the tests and provided a preliminary breath test of .219. He was arrested for suspicion of DUI. The man refused evidentiary testing. The officer applied for and received a telephonic warrant for a blood draw. Bail, $2,474.

— A 41-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday for suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery second offense and violation of suspended sentence.
According to the booking report, the woman was in a verbal confrontation with her boyfriend that turned physical, when the officer arrived and saw the woman throw an item at the man and then striking him in the leg. The man denied any injuries. She was arrested for domestic battery second offense and a violation of a suspended sentence. Bail: $5,000.
– A 45-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday for suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery. According to the booking report, deputies responded to the area of East Fifth Street for a report of a domestic battery. Dispatch advised the reporting party said their neighbor came to his door and told him her husband was beating her up. The reporting party said the woman had visible facial injuries.
Carson City Fire Department was also called to the scene. A deputy observed the woman, who was on a gurney, having red marks on her face that were beginning to swell, the report states.
A deputy walked over to the residence and noticed the door was open. The officer knocked on the door and gave verbal announcement. The suspect came out, where the deputies noticed scratches on his shoulder, arms and back. The officer asked the man if he needed medical attention. He denied needing it. He was asked what happened.
The man told officers he had been drinking whiskey with neighbor and said his girlfriend was upset because he was intoxicated. There was an argument. The man said his girlfriend scratched him. The man was asked if he hit the woman with a closed or open fist. The man said he gave the woman "rabbit punches" in which he demonstrated.
The deputy spoke with the woman who said her husband began drinking a bottle of whiskey he had bought. When she confronted him about drinking, he became verbally and physically aggressive, punching her in the nose, eyes and chest. She told deputies she pushed and scratched the man to get him to stop hitting her, and that he began to choke her. She was asked if she had lost consciousness. She said she did not.
The man was arrested for suspicion of domestic battery. Bail: $3,137.
— A 66-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday for suspicion of DUI. According to the booking report, a deputy made a traffic stop on a vehicle for not having a license plate light. Officers could smell an odor of alcohol coming from his person while speaking with him. The man agreed to field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment. He provided a preliminary breath test of .207 and was arrested for suspicion of DUI. Bail: $1,137.
— A Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 10:07 a.m. for suspicion of DUI. According to the booking report, deputies responded to the area of Lompa Lane and Dori Way for a report of a vehicle that drove off the roadway.
Deputies arrived and saw a vehicle off the roadway into a field facing south. The driver of the vehicle was outside the car and standing on the passenger rear of the vehicle. The deputy made contact with the driver who identified himself. The deputy observed the man having red, watery eyes, slurred speech and had a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person.
The man agreed to field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment on the tests. He provided a preliminary breath test of .262. He was arrested for suspicion of DUI. Later he agreed to evidentiary breath tests, with results of .150 and .152. Bail: $1,137.
— A 35-year-old man, Joseph Teruel, was arrested Saturday for suspicion of domestic battery and felony preventing a victim from reporting a crime, according to the Carson City Sheriff's Office in a booking report.
According to the report, officers were called to a Harbin Street residence regarding a domestic battery. Deputies learned the suspect, who had been drinking, got into a verbal argument with his girlfriend. The man allegedly put his hands around the jaw of the woman, pushing her head back, where her head hit the wall.
He then allegedly took the phone out of the woman's hands and threw it over a fence. The phone was located in the apartment complex behind the residence. As the woman tried to leave the house to get help several times, but the man would body-check her at every doorway. She was later able to get out and had a person call law enforcement for help, the report states.
Deputies located the man sleeping on the couch. There was broken furniture pieces and clothes strewn around the house. The man told deputies he didn't know what happen, saying that the two had only argued. He was asked if he had taken her cell phone and he said he did and threw it. He was asked why. The man said he was angry. The man was arrested for suspicion of domestic battery and preventing a victim from reporting a crime. Bail amount listed, $3,137 for domestic battery and $2,500 for felony preventing the report of a crime.
