Carson City Airport awarded $845,000 in federal money for infrastructure
The Carson City Airport has been awarded grants totaling $845,000 from the Federal Aviation Administration to pay for road and taxiway repairs and to install weather reporting equipment.
U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao announced Thursday the FAA will award $770.8 million in airport infrastructure grants nationwide, the third allotment of the total $3.18 billion in Airport Improvement Program funding.
The grants include three awards totaling $845,000 to the Carson City Airport. The grants are:
— $500,000 to repair an access road
— $300,000 for taxiway repairs
— $45,000 to install weather reporting equipment
“These Airport Improvement Grants are investments in our country’s critical infrastructure,” said Secretary Chao. “These grants are down payments to ensure Carson Airport remains an economic engine as demand grows.”
AIP grants fund infrastructure projects that include runways, taxiways, aprons, and terminal projects. These projects are important to the safety and efficiency of the nation’s system of airports.
Airports receive a certain amount of AIP entitlement funding each year based on activity levels and project needs. If their capital project needs exceed their available entitlement funds, the FAA can supplement their entitlements with discretionary funding.
