Sunday smoke in Carson City results in moderate air quality rating
Smoke that has settled into the Carson City area over the weekend from multiple fires burning throughout the Northern California region has resulted in an air quality index (AQI) rating of 89, according to CarsonWeather.com and the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno.
The AQI rating is considered in the high moderate range. Moderate air quality is rated between 51 and 100 on the AQI scale.
Moderate air quality means air is acceptable to breathe, except for the presence of some pollutants that may cause moderate health concerns to those who are highly sensitive to air pollution, according to the Nevada Department of Environmental Protection.
The Ultraviolet Index rating (UVI) is very high Sunday at 9.9 and is forecast to be very high again Monday at 10.4, CarsonWeather.com reports.
Hazy conditions with areas of smoke are forecast through at least Tuesday of this week, CarsonWeather.com and the NWS report, with highs into the mid-90s to about 95 degrees and overnight lows into the upper 50s to around 57.
