Mt. Rose Highway NDOT work on hold for Hot August Nights, Kingsbury and Highway 50 Moundhouse projects altered
To make travel easier and safer, the Nevada Department of Transportation will temporarily suspend or alter construction work on three projects around the area during Hot August Nights and the Reno-Tahoe Open events.
No construction-related lane closures will take place between the evening of Friday, July 25 and the morning of Monday, Aug. 4 on NDOT’s Mt. Rose Highway project. For the Highway 50 project at Moundhouse, there will be some drainage and shoulder work that will not affect lanes of traffic, said NDOT spokeswoman Meg Ragonese.
On State Route 207 Kingsbury Grade, there will be two-way traffic without turn lanes in the commercial area of lower Kingsbury on the Lake Tahoe side but no closures are planned, she said.
Work on NDOT’s other major projects in the area will also be suspended during various times throughout the last week of July for Hot August Nights.
“Our top priority is the safety and mobility of our state roads,” NDOT District Engineer Thor Dyson explained. “These events are so vital to the Reno-Tahoe area, and this temporary construction shutdown is another way we strive to make travel through our projects as easy as possible for residents and visitors.
Drivers will still see construction equipment staged near the road in project areas, and we encourage motorists to continue to drive safely through those areas.”
NDOT also implements similar temporary construction suspensions during major holidays such as Fourth of July.
