Karson Kruzers 36th ‘Run What-Cha-Brung’ show is back at Mills Park in Carson City this weekend
The Karson Kruzers non-profit organization was developed in 1985 by B.J. Barnhurst and his friends. The group wanted to allow everybody that loved their car a chance to put it in a real car show, even if it didn’t run.
“The bottom line was that everybody loved their car. It didn’t matter if they had fifty-thousand in it or five dollars in it,” Zina Donoho, a “proud member” of Karson Kruzers said.
At that time there had only been specialty shows with fancy or expensive cars, so the group decided there should be a car show that allows all owners to show their classic cars off.
Hence, the creation of "Run What-Cha-Brung.”
“They decided if you could push, pull, drag it or drive it and you loved it, it deserved to be shown,” Zina said. “That is what Karson Kruzers is all about.”
After 36 years, Karson Kruzers "Run What-Cha-Brung" is still running strong, even after surviving COVID-19, Zina said. B.J. Barnhurst sadly passed away in 2008, but his wife still comes to show off Barnhurst’s car every year. She even picks a car to grant the B.J. Memorial Award to, in order to honor his memory.
Zina said the Carson City Sheriff also does a “Pig’s Pick Award” and gives it to the car he thinks is most likely to be pulled over.
“We just have fun!” Zina said. “That’s what it’s all about. Sit there, love your car, it doesn't matter what’s in it or not in it.”
The Karson Kruzers “Run What-Cha-Brung” car show will be going on all day today at Mills Park, 1111 E. William St. Awards for the show will be announced around 4 p.m.
This show has good music, classic cars and is a great place to take your family if you’re looking for a bit of fun.
