Retrofit to begin at Camp Richardson Resort Campground at Lake Tahoe
The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit will begin the first phase of the Camp Richardson Resort Campground and Vehicle Circulation Best Management Practices Retrofit to meet current standards for water quality protection and universal accessibility.
Work to remove around 250 trees in the campground on the north side of Highway 89 will begin Tuesday, July 21, 2015, and is expected to last about two weeks.
The project will relocate campsites and roads from sensitive stream environment zone areas, define and pave roadways and campsite spurs, manage on-site storm water runoff with BMPs, relocate a portion of the Pope-Baldwin Bike Path away from the highway shoulder and create a new campground entrance.
Planning for this project has been coordinated with Caltrans, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, Lahontan Regional Water Quality Control Board, other stakeholders, and is consistent with the National Environmental Policy Act decision signed by the Forest Supervisor in September 2013.
The first phase of the project is expected to be complete by October 2015. Phase two on the south side of Highway 89 is anticipated to begin in September 2015 and be finished by June 2016.
