Lane reductions begin Monday on I-580 south of Reno for Galena Creek Bridge inspection
Traffic lanes will be reduced on I-580 south of Reno from Monday through Thursday, July 15-18 as the Nevada Department of Transportation performs routine bridge inspections.
Single lane closures will take place on I-580 approximately three miles south of the Mt. Rose Highway intersection daily between 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 15-18 for routine inspection of the Galena Creek Bridge.
Lane closures will primarily take place on the southbound interstate Monday and Tuesday, followed by northbound lane reductions on Wednesday and Thursday.
— Speed limits will be reduced to 55 mph.
— Drivers should expect moderate travel delays, and are advised to leave extra travel time.
— The work schedule is subject to change.
More limited lane reductions took place the week of July 8 for inspection of the I-580 Parker Ranch Road and St. James Parkway bridges just north of Washoe Valley.
The lane reductions are for the bridges’ federally-mandated biennial inspections. Opened to traffic in 2012, the bridges continue to rank in good condition as part of the routine bridge inspections.
NDOT inspects the majority of Nevada bridges, including city and county-maintained structures, every two years. Bridges with more extensive deterioration are inspected more often, while select newer bridges are inspected every four years. In fact, NDOT’s dedicated bridge inspection and rehabilitation program has helped Nevada bridges to be named the nation’s best for the eighth consecutive year.
