Vehicle pursuit ends in crash off William Street in Carson City, suspects flee on foot

UPDATE MONDAY: Two of the women involved in a vehicle pursuit in Carson City on Sunday afternoon face multiple charges after fleeing from deputies and, later, being caught.

According to the Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report, a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle, which failed to yield and led to a brief pursuit. The vehicle, which crashed into a large rock off of East Willam Street near Bank fo America, was associated to a larceny at the Famous Footwear in Douglas County.

The occupants of the vehicle fled on foot. Details were not immediately available on a male who taken into custody following the crash. One other male remained at large as of Sunday evening.

Maria Mendez was arrested at 4:52 p.m. in the 900 block of East William Street for suspicion of three counts possession of a credit card without consent, three counts possession of identification of another without confident, two counts possession of heroin, and misdemeanor obstructing.

Following the crash, Mendez was located nearby in front of a business in the 900 block of East William, and matched the description of those who fled. When she was discovered, she didn't have any shoes on, the report states.

During a search of the woman's backpack, deputies located ziplock bags containing 1.9 grams of heroin and 0.8 grams of heroin, two Nevada identification cards, and social security cards, a California identification, 4 visa cards, and seven credit cards. The woman was treated for a laceration on her forehead caused in the crash.

Also booked was Isabella Annmarie Kierulf, 28, of Reno, for suspicion of felony possession of a controlled substance, gross misdemeanor possession of stolen property, and misdemeanor obstructing and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Kierulf was found running through an apartment complex on William Street. She was detained and did not suffer any injuries from the crash. When the officer walked the woman to the patrol unit he observed she had black Nike shoes on, with a security tag still on the right shoe. The deputy collected the shoes for evidence. Located in the vehicle that crashed was a loaded hypodermic needle in the rear seat area. Bail for Kierulf: $6,489 and bail for Mendez: $12,912.

The matter remains under investigation. We will update as more information becomes available.

UPDATE 5:14PM: Three of the four suspects are now in custody, according to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong. The suspect at large is a white male adult, 20s to 30s, wearing a black shirt and jeans.
