Carson City Sheriff's Office: More arrests made in Saturday's jail escape investigation
On June 29, 2021 at about 6:40 pm the Carson City Sheriff’s Office responded to assist the Carson City Fire Department at 2741 Lovelace Lane regarding an unconscious person.
Upon arrival, the Deputy recognized the unconscious male as Carson City inmate Cody Abernathy, who ran away from his trustee work assignment on Saturday evening, June 26, 2021.
Abernathy was transported to the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center where he was treated and released back to the custody of the Carson City Sheriff’s Office. Matthew Marizza was located and arrested in Sacramento, California on June 27, 2021.
As a result of the investigative effort to locate inmates Matthew Marizza and Cody Abernathy, six people were arrested, and three more people will be held accountable for aiding Abernathy by providing him clothing, transportation and a hide out.
Pursuant to Nevada Revised Statutes 212.100 Aiding prisoner to escape and 212.130 Concealing an Escaped Prisoner, it is unlawful to aid a prisoner to escape from the lawful custody of the Sheriff. It is also unlawful to knowingly conceal or harbor a prisoner who has escaped.
